21.10.06 The Paul McCartney brand remains strong
In the same month as I talked up Sir Paul McCartney’s personal brand, his estranged wife, Heather Mills, has gone to the media to accuse him of beating her up and smoking dope. Interesting how few believe her and most have put her comments down to the ramblings of someone after more than the £30 million Sir Paul had supposedly offered. Others have called into question her honesty, especially after Mills alleging that the late Linda McCartney was beaten up as well. Sir Paul’s reactions have been in line with someone shocked by a total mistruth.
It may or may not be that simple, but I can’t help siding with the British public, which loves its villains in the tabloids. It’s backed up with the gut instinct of Sir Paul’s daughter, Stella, who warned Dad that Heather Mills was bad news—and that a pre-nup was essential. At the very least, it shows the strength of the Paul McCartney brand, and the need to build it over decades in case of these very attacks. Posted by Jack Yan, 22:09 Comments:
Sir Paul should've taken his daughter Heather's advice and did a pre-nup. Given his enormous wealth and the likelihood of the marriage not lasting, it would've been the wise thing to do. I think it reeks that Heather Mills will get L30 million for being married to him for 4 years. Extremely nice money if you're unbelievably lucky enough to get it. That the woman wants more does not speak well of her.
While I doubt the wife beating, I can believe the drug use. He is a product of the sixties where drug use was common and the Beatles as many other groups were known to have taken them. Strawberry Fields Forever was allegedly composed while McCartney and Lennon were both high on drugs. Also, he was later busted for drugs in Japan I believe. I agree with you that he needs to keep building up the McCartney brand. It has a good rep and as long as he does, he should have no problem selling his songs, his vegetarian meals or whatever else he wants to get involved in.
True about the dope. It does not surprise me and Ringo Starr was a major user of some hard drugs in the 1970s and 1980s. But the fact it has come out of Heather Mills’s mouth means it instantly lacks credibility, and £30 million, as you suggest, is incredibly generous.
