22.8.06 Vox news live
Robin Capper was very kind and sent me an invitation for Vox, the new Six Apart blogging service. As Robin describes it:
it’s another blog service in the vein of so many but it’s very simple to use and includes an element of social networking. I have set up a blog there and cross-posted the Snakes on a Plane post from last night (and got more responses), but being stuck with set templates (even though there are heaps) doesn’t help promote my personal brand. This site, after all, is an ego site—part of it was set up to put my favourite stuff on to. Like all brands, mine has a certain look, beyond the tone, knowledge and the world-beating humility. This blog is a forum so that potential clients see some of my thinking behind the projects and know that I am human (though with the output I have had, that may be open to question). I appreciate the facilities of the Vox blog and Six Apart has done a fine job. I also like the blogs I have discovered there—Robin’s and Randy Thomas’s. Maybe I am just too much of a fussy bastard, for I do like the functionalities of Vox, the three-column layout, and even the ease of posting. But it just doesn’t look like me—I hope Robin will forgive me for saying that after his generosity (he had two invitations, and one went to me). I will continue cross-posting because I think the site has potential, I am interested to see the feedback, and I do not believe a day is enough to gauge its effects. But, like Randy and Robin, my non-Vox blog will be the master, with more posts than the others. Posted by Jack Yan, 05:14 Comments:
Jack, no problem with your comments and I agree with them. I've enjoyed experimenting with Vox but will stick with TypePad which offers me just enough control without the hassle of running my own blogging software/servers. I'm glad I settled on TypePad before trying Blogger as find that equally restricting or far more difficult.
Is Vox restricted because it's simple or simple because it's restricted? :) One thing I'd love to see on TypePad is Vox's media library which is slick. # posted by Robin Capper: 8/22/2006 08:57:00 AM
Thank you for understanding, Robin. I do have my own server for this blog, and I quite like Blogger because there’s less to go wrong. However, at times, the limits are frustrating.

Good question there—chicken-and-egg scenario, really! Links to this post:
