Podcast preview

Next week, once Stefan Engeseth gets over his cold (autumns can be tricky times in Stockholm), we may be doing a Podcast. This is all dependent on how well I can get to function with —has anyone tried this?
I am hoping it will be suitably loose—Stefan and I go back nearly five years (which also means we have aged by five years)—and we have spent enough time together to have gotten on one another’s nerves over the years! (I know him well enough to say that the silhouette on Detective Marketing’s third-edition cover is his.) Somewhere along the line, I reckon we will talk about and his latest book, One.

Jack, I cant tell you enough how many ideas I have gotten from your expertise in the branding and marketing. I havent had time for much of anything in the last couple of months and in a couple of weeks my time will be freed up. I will begin to act on many of the things I have learned from your posts. Before I even began to read your blog I knew I had problems with my own business website, I knew it needed work (lots) but now I know for sure. Once I am done with all of my craziness in a couple weeks, I will be here more often and be more proactive in making some changes.
Hi Thanks for sharing, you have so many nice tips
Wish you well, will have to come back for more :)
Jack: I've used Audacity to edit podcasts, it's great.

To record Skype, I recommend Hot Recorder (www.hotrecorder.com). Simple and easy. (Though only the paid version actually worked for me)
Blackops, thank you for your kind words and I hope to continue helping. It can get tough sometimes, as I know that there will be some topics that I will not repeat—and that disadvantages later readers. But I will try to be comprehensive.
   Zingtrial, thank you!
Johnnie, thank you for the tips. So does this mean Audacity won’t record a Skype conversation? I was hoping to use existing software.
Jack - Getting Audacity to record Skype conversations is an exercise in futility (at least it was for me). Hotrecorder, on the other hand, could not have been simpler. Well worth the few bucks you spend to register it.

I wrote about this here last year.

Good luck!
Podcast! Very cool. Looking forward to that Jack.

Not sure how Audacity will work with Skype, when I looked into how to record off Skype there were a few specialist pieces of software, but Audacity should be worth a try.
Simon and Rick, thank you. I may splash out and be a big spender for Hotrecorder. I will admit that I have a bit of an aversion to software installation (as well as being a stinge). I used to have a recorder built in to this computer’s software package: not sure where that program is now.
One of our kind blog readers sent me this link:

The fourth comment reads: ‘An easier method to record conversations in Skype is the following:
   ‘(1) SET UP AUDACITY
   ‘Get Audacity from audacity.sourceforge.net; Run Audacity; Go to File -> Preferences -> Digital I/O -> Recording and choose a “Digital Audio”-class device rather than an “Input”-class device (which will replace microphone input with combined microphone **and** speaker recording); choose to record two channels of stereo; finally, close Preferences, and choose “Wave Out Mix” as the source of signal on the main window of Audacity;
‘(2) SET UP THE SOUND DRIVER
‘Go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Volume -> Advanced and make sure the microphone is not muted; you may also want to click on “Advanced” settings for the microphone and check “MIC Boost” to amplify your voice.
   ‘(3) USE AUDACITY AND SKYPE
‘During a conversation, you can start recording in Audacity at any point (big red button ); Audacity allows to export recordings in WAV, MP3, and OGG formats; for MP3s, you will need to find lame_enc.dll on Google (LAME is an excellent MP3 encoder).
   ‘Enjoy!!’
I am still being a stinge so I may give this a shot.
