Showing search censorship

A quickie today as I am tired from having started the day too early for TV: thanks to Paul McNamara, I found this link from Indiana University, called CenSearchip. You can compare the search results given to , and those given to the . Checking for Tiananmen Square, for example, yields 37,200 results for China and 3,200,000 for regular Google—and to make it easy to see what is covered, the program gives a tagcloud.
As I commented at Paul’s Buzzblog: what happens when, one day, the people seek out the conspirators? Will they touch Google and again?

This is a great tool. I threw in a few terms and came up with some very interesting results. And btw, I’m glad you’re going to go easy on the blogging after your marathon posting the past few days.
Thanks, Andrea. I was kind of making up for the lost days of the second week of March, too. I might have some scanned photos to share though from my time away: Doug Rimington, our photographer, popped by with his memory card yesterday and I’ve downloaded all his pics.

Note

Entries from 2006 to the end of 2009 were done on the Blogger service. As of January 1, 2010, this blog has shifted to a Wordpress installation, with the latest posts here.
With Blogger ceasing to support FTP publishing on May 1, I have decided to turn these older pages in to an archive, so you will no longer be able to enter comments. However, you can comment on entries posted after January 1, 2010.
