Slowly, gently

Business Week has an interview with Mena Trott, one half of the design team behind Moveable Type, who believes that won’t supplant mainstream news sites, foresees blog software getting easier to use, and that filtered readership is the next issue in blog design. Sensible, straight answers—neither the doom and gloom of The Wall Street Journal, nor the grand vision of blogs taking over the world.

I mostly agree, Jack. This might bjust be about reality. I believe that blogs, social media, are part of a revolution in media and communications and therefore human life. But newspapers and existing forms of media may take part in that revolution, and in fact in cases like the UK's Guardian are very much part of driving it forward.
Thanks for this link Jack.
I think the beauty and sweet spot of weblogs is twofold. First the ability to give anyone who wants to step up to the plate a voice in the world. Secondly, the easy propogation of great ideas.
In this respect I do think weblogs help change the world for the better.
Blessings.
I agree with you both—mass media do have to change and evolve, and like you, Antony, I feel The Guardian is doing a good job. (I’m waiting for it to adopt a new logo so it looks more like the redesigned newspaper.) Nick—thank you. With the links you’ve provided at your blog, you certainly live this, giving exposure to many great voices around the world alongside your own authentic one.

Note

Entries from 2006 to the end of 2009 were done on the Blogger service. As of January 1, 2010, this blog has shifted to a Wordpress installation, with the latest posts here.
With Blogger ceasing to support FTP publishing on May 1, I have decided to turn these older pages in to an archive, so you will no longer be able to enter comments. However, you can comment on entries posted after January 1, 2010.
