29.1.06 The top 10 under-reported stories of 2005 Another top 10 list has been brought to my attention: the top 10 under-reported stories of 2005, according to Médécins sans Frontières. The mainstream media have ignored these, for the most part, and the stories have registered only a few minutes the entire year on each of the network news programmes. The cynic in me says that it’s not economically viable to get news crews to these locations given the potential return in viewers. Hence, off to Iraq they all go.

Have you heard about Independent World Television? If that project can actually spread its wings, those more pressing issues might stand a chance!
Hi Rabbit: I hadn’t heard of the venture, but thank you for introducing it! I do agree the mainstream media need their oligopoly broken—and this might do it. If we don’t break it, then all we will have are the same seven stories circulating the planet at any one time—24-hour news channels have not made us more informed. They simply drill the same stories in to us more.
